Fire Blankets – how do they work and what are they used for?
If you’re thinking about fire safety products at home, a fire blanket is a must alongside a fire extinguisher.
Fire blankets work by smothering fires, starving them of oxygen. They have multiple uses – ones that you may not have even thought of! They are made of woven fibreglass which is a fire retardant material. They are also heat resistant. They can be used on cooking oil related fires (Class F), as well as other small fires. They can be used on a person where clothing has ignited, by wrapping the blanket around the flames. In the event of a fire escape, a fire blanket can be used to shield you from heat and flame whilst exiting a building.
They come in two main sizes for domestic settings, 1m x 1m and 1.2m x 1.2m. We only sell the 1.2m x 1.2m version. Considering the situations a fire blanket is required, the larger version offers better all round protection for the user.
